Jill McCann

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY

“Your reputation is one of the most important things you can carry when you are a lawyer.”

Jill McCann joined Nichols Zauzig in 2016 with a diverse legal background and honors for academic distinction from University of Richmond School of Law.

Prior to joining us, Jill held a yearlong clerkship with Judge Kassabian in Fairfax County Circuit Court. Before that, she served as a judicial extern in the United States Eastern District Court of Virginia. Working with judges, Jill learned that “your reputation is one of the most important things you can carry when you are a lawyer.”  Attorneys are expected to balance “being a strong advocate for your client, while also being cordial in the courtroom. One of my lessons learned was, you can do both.”

While in law school, Jill interned in the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District Court of Virginia and represented indigent children accused of delinquency offenses as a Student Associate for the University of Richmond Children’s Defense Clinic. Jill also clerked in a New Jersey law office assisting attorneys with civil litigation defense.

Jill graduated magna cum laude from University of Richmond School of Law in May 2015, with academic honors including Order of the Coif (top 10% of class), McNeill Law Society (top one-third of class) and CALI Award for Excellence (highest semester grade) in Constitutional Law and Labor Law. With a strong educational background and broad legal experience, Jill was ready to trade hypotheticals for reality when she joined Nichols Zauzig .

“I am excited about helping people and making a difference in their lives.” Jill believes the practice of medical malpractice law also fulfills her desire to be challenged. “Medical malpractice cases are some of the toughest out there–you need to have a grasp of medicine, as well as law. In this field, I learn a lot and never have a dull moment.”
