A dedicated advocate whose experiences uniquely qualify him to obtain justice for his clients, Mike Hollingsworth concentrates on criminal defense and certain civil litigation matters.

Mike’s experience has taken him through every level of Virginia’s court system. He has tried cases in every state and federal court in Northern Virginia, including a wide variety of serious felonies and misdemeanors. He has also represented individuals and businesses as plaintiffs and defendants in contract actions, business torts, defamation, real estate disputes, and other commercial matters. Mike is also a skilled appellate lawyer and has argued before both the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Virginia Court of Appeals.

Mike graduated from the Catholic University Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C. where his passion for litigation was quickly realized. There he focused on trial skills and evidence through both case study and competitive practice in trial and moot court competitions. Also during law school, Mike worked for a Superior Court judge in Washington, D.C. and served as a teaching assistant for the law school. Additional academic accomplishments included a civil rights scholar award for outstanding academic performance and community service, as well as a scholarship award for excellence in writing.

During college, Mike served as an intern in The White House and the U.S. House of Representatives, giving him behind-the-scenes insight into the operation of our government. He also worked for the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Maryland where he helped elementary school students with homework and life skills. He graduated Dean’s List from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and also obtained a certificate in political management from George Washington University.

Mike approaches the practice of law from the client’s viewpoint and treats every case with urgency and dedication. His passion is fairness for all regardless of a person’s background or circumstances. He understands the power of the government and its ability to take advantage of the individual if allowed to govern unchecked. Judge orders new trial for client facing 35-year prison sentence

Mr. Hollingsworth’s client had been convicted for forcible sodomy and attempted rape and the jury in Stafford County recommended he serve 35 years, although formal sentencing had not yet occurred. Mr. Hollingsworth successfully argued for the new trial based on information about a cell phone that belonged to the alleged victim came to light after his client’s conviction. A multi-million dollar defamation and malicious prosecution lawsuit dismissed in Prince William Circuit Court on Mr. Hollingsworth’s motion.

Felony drug charges dismissed after unconstitutional police conduct

Felony drug charges were dismissed by the Prince William Circuit Court after a motion to suppress was litigated by Michael Hollingsworth to show unconstitutional police conduct under the 4th Amendment.

Felony robbery charges dismissed

Mr. Hollingsworth was successful in having robbery charges dismissed for his wrongly accused client.

Child pornography charges dismissed based on 4th amendment

Multiple charges of possession of child pornography were dismissed in Fredericksburg court after Mr. Hollingsworth won his argument to suppress a motion based on 4th Amendment violations about the legality of a computer search.

Intellectually impaired man saved from life imprisonment for murder

After defense attorney Mike Hollingsworth recognized signs of intellectual disability, this 27-year-old client facing murder charges underwent a psychological evaluation and was found to be significantly impaired. Mike convinced prosecution to plead to a lesser, non-death eligible offense in exchange for full cooperation against other co-defendants. Charges reduced from life imprisonment to 27 years.

At-risk client protected from mandatory jail time

Mr. Hollingsworth negotiated a no-jail disposition plea bargain for his at-risk client.
